Ali Abdullah Jaber
Ali Abdullah Saleh Jaber Al-Saeedi (Arabic: علي بن عبدالله بن صالح علي جابر) was the Imam of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca[1] and Lecturer of comparative jurisprudence in department of Islamic studies at King Abdulaziz University Jeddah.[2] He was known for his unique and melodic Quran recitation.
Biography
Ali Abdullah Saleh Jaber Al-Saeedi was born on 27 August 1953 (Dhu al-Hijjah 1373 AH) in Jeddah. At age of 5, he with his parents moved to Madinah where he learned the Quran.[3]
Education
Ali Jaber first learned Quran under the supervision of Rahmatullah Qari, then under Sheikh Khalil Al-Qari,[4] where his companionship with Muhammad Ayyub started. Ali Jaber completed the memorization of Quran at the age of 15.
After he obtained his first university degree, he continued his postgraduate studies and headed towards Riyadh to the Higher Institute of the Judiciary, affiliated with Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, and joined as a student in the Master's stage, in the academic year 1396-1397 AH. After passing the methodological stage in preparing the Master's thesis, he applied to the presidency of the Comparative Jurisprudence Department - which was headed at that time by Dr. Badran Abu Al-Ainain Badran - to write on the subject: “ The Jurisprudence of Abdullah bin Omar and its Impact on the School of Medina”. The thesis was discussed and Ali Jaber was awarded the master's degree with a grade of Excellent.[2][5]
Imamate
Ali Jaber first led the prayers at a private mosque in palace of King Khalid. When the King arrived at Makkah on the 20th night of Ramadan, Ali Jaber was ordered to arrive Makkah and lead the prayers in the Masjid al-Haram. People in the Masjid got influenced and loved his voice.[6] He then was appointed as an official Imam of Masjid al-Haram.
Death
After suffering from health problems, Ali Jaber died in a hospital in Jeddah on 14 December 2005 (12 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1426 AH). He was then transferred to Makkah where his Jinazah prayer was led by Saleh al-Talib in Masjid al-Haram after Asr prayer on 15 December 2005. Second Jinazah prayer was led by Muhammad Ayyub.
Ali Jaber was buried in Al-Sharayea cemetry, Makkah on 15 Decemeber 2005.[7]
