Padmakar is a Ritikal femous poet.[1][2] His full name was Padmakar Bhatt. He belonged to a family of scholars and poets so his family was called ‘Kavishwar’.

Early life

Padmakar was born 1753 AD in Sagar. His father Mohanlal Bhatt was a brahmin. They were patronized by the courts of Panna, Gwalior, Bundi, Udaipur, and Jaipur.

Major works

Some of the famous works of Padmakar are Jagdwinod, Padmabharan, Prabodh Pachasa, Himmatbahadur Virudawali and Ganga-Lahari.[3]

Demise

It is said that at the last time of his life he was suffering from leprosy, from which he finally got cured after the medicinal use of Ganges water. Like Jagannath Panditraj, he wrote the last poetic work of his life “Ganga-Lahari” in praise of Ganga on the banks of Ganga in Kanpur. He died in 1833 at the age of 80. The statue of Padmakar is installed at the pond ghat in Sagar.
