La ceremonia The Game Awards 2019 honró a los mejores videojuegos de 2019. El evento fue organizado por Geoff Keighley en el Microsoft Theater de Los Ángeles el 12 de diciembre de 2019.[1]
Presentación
The Game Awards 2019 se llevó a cabo en el Microsoft Theatre de Los Ángeles el 12 de diciembre de 2019, siendo presentado y producido por el periodista de juegos canadiense Geoff Keighley.[2]El pre-show fue presentado por Sydnee Goodman.[3] El programa se transmitió en vivo a nivel mundial en más de 50 países a través de numerosos servicios, tales como YouTube, Twitch, Twitter y Facebook. También, a diferencia de ceremonias anteriores, la de 2019 fue la primera en ser transmitida por televisión en vivo en India a través de MTV India, un mercado en crecimiento significativo para la industria de los videojuegos.[4] Además, fue transmitido simultáneamente. en cines seleccionados de Cinemark en todo Estados Unidos en asociación con Sony Pictures. El programa registró una audiencia 45,2 millones de streamings globales en vivo (un 73% más que en la edición de 2018), alcanzando un recuento máximo de 7 millones simultáneos, incluyendo más de 2 millones en Twitch y YouTube.[5]
En asociación con el evento, se llevó a cabo un festival de juegos en línea del 12 al 14 de diciembre de 2019. Durante este período, varios juegos próximos tenían demos gratuitas a través de Steam, tales como Carrion, Spiritfarer y Skatebird. Keighley declaró sus intenciones de expandir este festival de juegos a todas las plataformas digitales para los premios 2020.[6]
El programa tuvo varios invitados como presentadores de premios, incluido el expresidente de Nintendo de América Reggie Fils-Aimé, el jugador de la NBA Stephen Curry, el director de cine Jonathan Nolan, los actores Norman Reedus, Vin Diesel y Michelle Rodriguez, y los personajes de The Muppets Bunsen Honeydew y Beaker,[7] entre otros. Además de la Game Awards Orchestra, el espectáculo incluyó actuaciones musicales de Chvrches con su canción para Death Stranding, Grimes interpretando su composición para Cyberpunk 2077 y Green Day promocionando un paquete de contenido de Beat Saber con su canciones.[8]
Ganadores y nominados
La lista completa de los videojuegos nominados se dio a conocer el 19 de noviembre de 2019,[9] la cual fue seleccionada por un jurado de 80 medios de comunicación a nivel mundial.[10]Se contabilizó el voto del jurado (90% del total de los votos) y del público vía el sitio web oficial (10% del total) para determinar los títulos ganadores.[10][11]Sólo el premio "voz del público" se podía nominar y votar enteramente por el público.[12] En total se registraron 15,5 millones de votos del público, lo cual fue un 50% más que en los premios del año anterior.[13] También se realizó la entrega del premio "ciudadanos del gaming mundial", en colaboración con Facebook Gaming; dos ganadores de este premio se anunciaron en el E3 2019, mientras que los otros tres en la gala de premios junto con presentaciones de Lisanne Pajot y James Swirsky, directores de la película Indie Games: The Movie.[14]
