NGC 253 edo Sculptor galaxia galaxia espiral bat da, Sculptor konstelazioan^[1]. Caroline Lucretia Herschelek aurkitu zuen 1783ko irailaren 23an^[2], kometak bilatzen ari zela. Starburst motako galaxia da, hau da, bertan izarren sorrera handia gertatzen ari da.

Caroline Herschelek aurkitu eta mende erdira, John Herschelek berriro ikusi zuen bere 18 hazbeteko teleskopioarekin Esperantza Oneko lurmuturran. Lau izar identifikatu zituen bertan, baina objektutik kanpo zeudela idatzi zuen. Prismatiko batzuekin ikus daitekeen galaxietako bat da, Beta Cetiren ondoan. Andromedako Galaxiaren ostean ikusteko errazen den galaxia dela esan ohi da^[3]^[4].

Scultor Taldearen erdian dagoen galaxia da, Esne Bidetik gertuen dagoen galaxia taldeetako bat. Taldeko galaxiarik distiratsuena da, eta guregandik gertuen dagoen distira intrintseko handiena duenetako bat da. NGC 247, PGC 2881, PGC 2933, Sculptor-dE1 eta UGCA 15 dira grabitazioaren bidez lotuta dauden taldeko galaxiak.
