Alexander Duncan Langmuir (født 12. september 1910 i Santa Monica i California i USA, død 22. november 1993) var en amerikansk epidemiolog. Han opprettet Epidemic Intelligence Service.
Biografi
Langmuir tok gradene A.B. i 1931 ved Harvard University, M.D. i 1935 ved Cornell University Medical College og M.P.H. i 1940 ved Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
Etter tjeneste i folkehelsen i New York og som epidemiolog i U.S. Army fra 1942 til 1946, kom Langmuir tilbake til Johns Hopkins for å bli associate professor for epidemiologi på det medisinske fakultet. I 1949 ble han direktør for epidemiolog-avdelingen ved National Communicable Disease Center (det senere Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) i Atlanta, en stilling han innehadde i over tyve år. Han skrev utførlig om alle epidemiologiens faser globalt betraktet, og var internasjonalt anerkjent som en ledende bidragsyter til epidemiologien som vitenskap.[trenger referanse]
Langmuir var visiting professor ved Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health fra 1988 til sin død i 1993.
