James Wesley Cogdell (23 de agosto de 1953) é um matemático estadunidense.

Formação e carreira

Graduado pela Universidade Yale em 1975 com um grau de bacharel em em obteve um Ph.D. em 1981, com a tese Arithmetic Quotients of the Complex 2-Ball and Modular Forms of Nebentypus, orientado por Ilja Pjatetskij-Shapiro.[1] Cogdell fez um pós-doutorado na Universidade de Maryland e na Universidade da Califórnia em Los Angeles. Foi de 1982 a 1988 professor assistente na Universidade Rutgers. Na Oklahoma State University foi de 1987 a 1988 professor assistente, de 1988 a 1994 professor associado, e de 1994 a 2004 professor pleno (a partir de 1999 como Southwestern Bell Professor, de 2000 como Regents Professor, e de 2003 como Vaughan Foundation Professor). Em 2004 foi professor na Universidade Estadual de Ohio.[2]

Foi, com Piatetski-Shapiro, palestrante convidado do Congresso Internacional de Matemáticos em Pequim (2002: Converse theorems, functoriality and applications to number theory).[3] Foi editor, com Simon Gindikin e Peter Sarnak, dos Selected Works of Ilya Piatetski-Shapiro (2000, AMS).[4]

Cogdell foi eleito em 2012 fellow da American Mathematical Society[5] e em 2016 fellow da Associação Americana para o Avanço da Ciência.[6]
