Peter David Lax (Budapeste, 1 de maio de 1926) é um matemático húngaro, com trabalho tanto em matemática aplicada como em matemática pura.
Casou com Anneli Cahn Lax em 1948.[1]
Lax tem fundamentais contribuições nas áreas de sistemas integráveis, dinâmica dos fluidos, ondas de choque, física dos sólitons, leis de conservação hiperbólica e computação científica. Lax é pesquisador no Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, o departamento de matemática da Universidade de Nova Iorque.
