1876年美國總統選舉於1876年11月7日舉行，是歷史上第23次美國總統大選。這場選舉是美國歷史上最具爭議的總統大選之一，也是象徵美國重建時期結束的催化劑。本次主要競爭者包含共和黨的拉瑟福德·伯查德·海斯及民主黨的塞繆爾·J·蒂爾登，經過一段具爭議性的選後流程後，海斯宣告勝選。
背景
雖然尤利西斯·辛普森·格蘭特曾有意願競選第三任，但最終拒絕後，眾議員詹姆斯·G·布萊恩成為共和黨提名的領跑者。然而布萊恩卻未能在1876年共和黨全國代表大會（英语：1876 Republican National Convention）出線，最終由俄亥俄州州長海斯成為了妥協的總統候選人。另一方面1876年民主黨全國代表大會（英语：1876 Democratic National Convention）則在兩輪投票後提名紐約州州長蒂爾登作為總統候選人。
結果
這次是有史以來最具爭議性的選舉結果。雖然蒂爾登在普選票勝過海斯，但在換算選舉人票後，蒂爾登獲得了184票，海斯則獲得185票，無人過半，而剩下4個州共計20票卻懸而未決。雙方在佛羅里達州、路易斯安那州及南卡羅來納州均宣稱勝出，在奧勒岡州則有一名選舉人因為是「當選或任命的官員」，被宣告違法而遭到撤換。這些選舉人票最終應歸屬誰的問題成為了爭議持續的來源。在選舉委員會的表決中，以8–7將有爭議的20張選舉人票判給海斯，使海斯以一票之差險勝。之後兩黨達成一項非正式協議：1877年妥協案以解決爭議，民主黨人默許海斯擔任此屆總統但不得尋求連任，而共和黨人同意從南方撤走聯邦軍隊結束重建時期作為回報。此項妥協案還決定將南方各州的權力分給南方民主黨人當中自稱救贖者（英语：Redeemers）的保守派[2]，此後救贖者開始剝奪黑人的投票權。1877年妥协案没有留下任何书面证据，其具体细节仍有争议。[3]
後續影響
1876年的總統大選是美國歷史上五次贏得普選票卻輸掉大選（英语：United States presidential elections in which the winner lost the popular vote）的第二次。迄今為止，這是美國有史以來選舉人差距最小的一次（英语：List of United States presidential elections by Electoral College margin）（185–184），也是史上所有投票年齡人口（英语：voting age population）的投票率最高的一次，高達81.8%[1][4]。儘管蒂爾登未能當選總統，但他還是成為民主黨自1856年（英语：1856 United States presidential election）的詹姆斯·布坎南以來第一位在普選票勝出的候選人，同時也是自1852年（英语：1852 United States presidential election）的富蘭克林·皮爾斯以來第一位獲得絕對多數的候選人（事實上蒂爾登普選票的比例還略高於1852年的皮爾斯，只是皮爾斯當年是壓倒性勝利）。
